Woke Art Fest

Woke Art Fest

Inspired by the life of artist Keith Knight, comedy series WOKE takes an absurdly irreverent look at identity and culture as it follows Keef, an African-American cartoonist finally on the verge of success when an unexpected incident changes everything.

To promote the series, Hulu introduced the Woke Art Fest, an all-day celebration of rising Black visual artists.

We commissioned 10 Black visual artists for an all-day social takeover hosted on Hulu’s Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts to spotlight their talent and amplify their voices.

Being mindful of the current social moment while navigating the COVID-19 era effectively, we launched a digital/social campaign that would speak to the show’s themes and generate excitement around its premiere, Woke Art Fest. Utilizing the moment around National Coloring Day on 9/14, the Woke Art Fest included the following elements:

  • Seeding Program: Branded kits to influencers/talent/brand friendlies

  • Social Takeover: A full-day takeover of Hulu’s social media channels by Black Artists to help spotlight their talent and amplify their voices

This approach leveraged the cultural moment for the show through a socially-relevant and thoughtfully developed program to help drive awareness & tune-in.

To help showcase the diversity that exists amongst contemporary Black visual artists, the lineup featured a multifaceted group of creatives from painters and illustrators to animators, cartoonists and photographers.

Leading up to the big day, the custom-created Save the Date and Artist Spotlight assets were shared across Hulu and talent social channels. This pre-heat content helped to build anticipation for the Woke Art Fest and introduced each individual artist participating in the program.

The takeover programming was curated to amplify each the artists’ individual talents, work, and social voices. Team Epiphany packed the programming schedule with plenty of interactive elements including four Instagram Live moments, a Facebook Live animation session, a virtual art gallery on Instagram Stories, and artist showcases across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to further the Hulu audience’s excitement and engage artist communities alike.
